Arow Global è una piccola azienda americana innovativa che produce finestrini per l’industria dei trasporti e che sta facendo il suo primo ingresso nel mercato dei materiali compositi in fibra continua, utilizzando la stampa 3D: “Quel che abbiamo utilizzato finora è la vetroresina e la fibra di carbonio, fondamentalmente, per provare a rendere le nostre parti un po’ più rigide in particolare i sistemi di foratura”, ha commentato orgogliosamente Joseph Walters, New Product Design Engineer di Arow Global. Un aereo in composito per volare su Marte

I ricercatori della NASA hanno annunciato che l’agenzia ha iniziato la prototipazione di un aereo a forma di boomerang che farà il primo volo su Marte tra il 2022 e il 2024.

“Stiamo costruendo alcuni prototipi che vogliamo porre in ambienti molto particolari e vedere come si comporteranno”, ha detto Al Bowers, ricercatore capo presso NASA Armstrong e Program manager del Preliminary Research Aerodynamic Design to Land on Mars (Prandtl-m).

For the first time ever, a major exhibition by the Vitra Design Museum provides a comprehensive overview of the Bauhaus concept of design.
The Bauhaus is one of the most influential cultural institutions of the 20th century, a place where the leading tendencies of the European avant-garde converged and melded as if in a crucible.

Stylized into a myth, the Bauhaus also came to epitomize the modern design cliché: geometric, industrial, cool.
The show presents a multiplicity of rare, in some cases never-before-seen exhibits from the fields of design, architecture, art, film and photography, but also documents the underlying developmental processes and societal models.

At the same time, it confronts the Bauhaus idea with current developments in design, such as the digital revolution, as well as with works by numerous contemporary designers and artists.
Viewed from this present-day perspective, the Bauhaus reveals an array of new facets with surprising contemporary relevance.

Featured designers and artists include Marianne Brandt, Marcel Breuer, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Lyonel Feininger, Joseph Grima, Walter Gropius, Enzo Mari, Olaf Nicolai, Open Desk, Adrian Sauer, Oskar Schlemmer and many more.

Un premio in ricordo di uno dei grandi maestri del design italiano

La “Targa Rodolfo Bonetto”, giunta alla 20° edizione, con il patrocinio di ADI Associazione per il Disegno Industriale e Fondazione ADI Collezione Compasso d’Oro, è un premio rivolto a studenti delle Università e scuole di design di tutto il mondo.

Un’occasione importante per mettersi alla prova, dedicata a chi è ancora nella fase di formazione in una professione che richiede un mix di competenze e doti innate: “Il design è come una farfalla tra le mani – diceva Bonetto – se la stringi troppo muore, se la lasci andare vola via”.

Carbon composite used for a world record sled

A British Company specialized in composite,EPM Technology” of Derby, buildt and assembled a carbon fiber sled that at 83.5 mph. beat the exhisting record by 20mph. The sled was piloted by Guy Martin. The record was for the fastest gravity powered sled.

The project was led by three partners: a TV production company, EPM and Sheffield Hallam’s Centre for Sports Engineering Research.

First the project was modelled in CAD and sent to Sheffield Hallam for simulation on the structure.

The structure was made by EPM in prepreg carbon fibre cured in an autoclave. Nomex honeycomb was added to it make it stiffer and lighter.

The main component was a single complete piece. Then the sled was assembled with the other componentes like the steering system, braking systems and a braking parachute.

International Composites Congress (ICC) in September

The trade association Composites Germany and its member organisations AVK, CCeV, CFK-Valley und VDMA Forum Composite Technology are hosting their first joint congress in the area of fiber reinforced plastics/composites under the title “Composites – On the path to becoming a key industry?”

The 1st International Composites Congress (ICC) will take place from
21 – 22 September 2015 in Stuttgart. This event replaces the renowned AVK Conference and will be
the meeting place for the international composites community from 2015.
